Resumen

Ser diagnosticado de cáncer produce un impacto físico, psicológico y social importante, lo que requiere un entendimiento por parte de los servicios de salud de cara a producir una mejora en la atención proporcionada a estos pacientes. En este sentido, existe la necesidad de analizar en profundidad el contexto y la situación de vida de estas personas. Este estudio pretende conocer las percepciones, expectativas, emociones y opiniones de una persona recién diagnosticada de cáncer que a su vez ha tenido una larga historia de problemas de salud. Para ello, se decidió realizar un relato biográfico, un tipo de estudio cualitativo descriptivo de un solo caso. Para la informante de este relato el cáncer es concebido como un obstáculo más en una lucha continua por llevar a cabo una vida no supeditada a una enfermedad y a todo el proceso médico que implica.

Abstract

To be diagnosed with cancer produces an important physical, social and psychological impact. It's important to better understand those factors to improve the health care provided for these patients. In this sense, there is a need to analyze in depth the context and life situation for these patients. This study aimed to examine the perceptions, expectations, emotions and opinions of a person newly diagnosed with cancer which at the same time has had a long history of health problems. To this end, we decided to perform a biographical account, a type of descriptive qualitative study of a single case. From the point of view of the informant, the cancer is seen as an obstacle in the continuous struggle to carry out a life not influenced by the disease and it's medical process.
